Winter birds and evergreens
Winter here means what stays green or stays put when the snow comes. The black-capped chickadee and northern cardinal are year-round feeder birds across much of North America, the two most people see on a snowy morning. Holly and pine cones cover the evergreen side, and poinsettias and ornaments carry the season into the holidays. For Christmas-specific designs, see the Christmas hub.
Designs that last past the holidays
Chickadees, holly and pine cones read as winter without saying Christmas, so they keep working in January and February: winter classroom displays, bird-count posters, seed-swap flyers and snow-day notices. Pair them with cool blue or gray type and plenty of white space to suggest snow, and save the red-and-green combinations for December.
